“Today, and every day, we celebrate the simple idea that by working together people can improve their financial lives,” said Murray Williams, President and CEO of the Iowa Credit Union League.
IOWA — In honor of International Credit Union Day being celebrated on October 17th around the globe, Governor Kim Reynolds signed a proclamation declaring today as “Credit Union Day” in Iowa.
Gov. Reynold’s Credit Union Day proclamation recognizes the Iowa credit union industry for its continuing advancement of the financial well-being of credit union members and the contributions made to their respective communities. It states, “Credit unions embrace a ‘people-helping-people’ philosophy through pooling of personal resources and leadership abilities for the good of the cooperative, empowering members to improve their financial future and uniting to help those in need.”
As member-owned, financial cooperatives, Iowa credit unions serve 1.6 million members and help them save more than $150 million annually through better rates and fewer fees than other financial institutions.
“Today, and every day, we celebrate the simple idea that by working together people can improve their financial lives,” said Murray Williams, President and CEO of the Iowa Credit Union League. “International Credit Union Day highlights the spirit of the global credit union movement and recognizes the importance of a local and trusted financial partner for Iowans. The member-owned, cooperative structure not only helps Iowans keep more of their hard-earned money in their pocket, but also benefits our local Iowa communities.”
Sponsored by the World Council of Credit Unions since 1948, International Credit Union Day is celebrated to remember credit unions’ proud history and promote awareness of and support for the credit union difference.
