Annual Iowa Credit Union Convention Concludes, Iowa Credit Union Award Winners Honored

ICUL Board of Directors Sworn in for New Term

DES MOINES - More than 550 credit union leaders, exhibitors, speakers and guests gathered in Des Moines September 18-20 for the annual Iowa Credit Union Convention. This year’s convention offered educational sessions for Iowa credit unions focusing on the future of the industry and serving the financial lives of Iowans.

Seven credit union leaders were honored during the 2024 Iowa Credit Union League (ICUL) Annual Meeting for their significant contributions to the credit union movement and the financial lives of Iowans. 

  • Jim Anderson of Des Moines Metro Credit Union was presented with the Heritage Award in recognition of his lifetime credit union achievements.
  • Christina Christensen of Veridian Credit Union was presented with the Cooperative Spirit Professional Award in acknowledgement of her outstanding service to the success of the credit union movement.
  • Toby Brimmer (Lennox Employees Credit Union), Fred Mims (GreenState Credit Union) and Creston Van Wey (Veridian Credit Union) received the Cooperative Spirit Volunteer Award for their leadership and impact to their individual credit union boards of directors.
  • Alyssa Aikey of Cedar Falls Community Credit Union was honored with the Young Professional Award in acknowledgement of her inspirational “people helping people” credit union service.
  • Matthew De Bisschop of Ascentra Credit Union was named ICUL Champion of the Year to celebrate his dedication to credit union advocacy and the impact he makes across the state.

“The Iowa credit union movement is made up of outstanding leaders at all levels. The League is honored to recognize and celebrate those who inspire a culture of excellence and community service within our industry. This year’s award recipients were true champions of the ‘people helping people’ philosophy,” said ICUL President and CEO Murray Williams. “The credit union movement is committed to helping our 1.5 million members support and grow the communities where they live and work.”

During the annual meeting, ICUL board members were sworn in to serve as strategic leaders for Iowa’s credit unions:

  • Jeff Hayes, North Star Community Credit Union (Board Vice-Chair)
  • Jordan Hensley, Peoples Credit Union
  • Dave Klavitter, Dupaco Community Credit Union
  • Brad Mertens, Metco Credit Union
  • Mike Moroney, AIM Credit Union
  • Mark Peters, Employees Credit Union
  • Julie Pingel, Fort Dodge Family Credit Union
  • Cindy Stephenson, Iowa Heartland Credit Union
  • Jami Weems, Serve Credit Union
  • Scott Zahnle, Greater Iowa Credit Union (Board Chair)
