(West Des Moines, Iowa) – Affiliates Management Company (AMC), the holding company of the Iowa Credit Union League (ICUL), celebrated a year of giving by presenting checks for $50,000 to the Iowa Credit Union Foundation (ICUF) and the Des Moines Social Club. These donations complete an impactful year of giving for the parent company of BrightWise, Coopera, PolicyWorks, LLC, PolicyWorks Iowa and AMC FS, Inc. Through its AMC Gives Back initiative, AMC and the Iowa Credit Union League donated more than $150,000 to charitable organizations throughout 2018.
The Iowa Credit Union Foundation was the largest recipient of charitable giving, receiving $85,000 total in 2018. Through its mission to empower people and communities to achieve financial well-being by championing the credit union philosophy of “people helping people”, ICUF serves as a hub for credit union philanthropy and assists credit unions with supporting their members in need. AMC donated $35,000 to ICUF earlier this year to support disaster relief efforts for credit union members impacted by the July 17 tornado in Marshalltown and flooding that took place in northern Iowa.
“The Iowa Credit Union Foundation is truly grateful to AMC for their ongoing charitable support of our mission,” said Jaimie Miller, Executive Director of ICUF. “Without the support from AMC, the Iowa Credit Union League and credit unions across the state, we would not have been able to assist more than 100 credit union members with disaster grants following the flooding and tornadoes of this past year. These donations truly make a difference in the lives of credit union members in need.”
In addition to disaster grant funding, ICUF utilizes donations to provide scholarships to high school graduates to attend college and invests in financial literacy programs.
“AMC’s charitable giving is based on the simple philosophy that by focusing our contributions toward organizations that work to improve the financial lives of consumers, we are able to make the greatest difference in our communities and fulfill our mission,” said Murray Williams, CEO of AMC. “ICUF supports credit union members in need, and the Des Moines Social Club works to reach diverse and underserved communities. In addition to our monetary support of these organizations, we are proud to say that our employees are also contributing their time and talents through volunteerism and other charitable support of similar organizations in Central Iowa.”
Through the company’s AMC Gives Back initiative, AMC employees care for the communities in which they live and work. Each employee is awarded eight hours of Volunteer Time Off (VTO) to get involved in helping community organizations important to them. This year nearly 70% of AMC employees used their VTO benefits, volunteering more than 300 service hours to local organizations.
In addition to the donations made to ICUF, AMC and their employees also supported the National Credit Union Foundation, United Way of Central Iowa and the Food Bank of Iowa.
